learn to throw on the potter’s wheel & turn soft clay into functional bowls, cups, and objects you can use everyday.

these are small outdoor classes taught by patient people who love what they do. perfect for those who want a more personalized experience ❤️

what’s class like?

in this 2hr~ wheelthrowing session, you'll have 3 tries to make a set of bowls or cups on the potter’s wheel and add decoration (if you’d like) with stamps and texture tools.

you’ll learn all the steps in the initial process of wheelthrowing — from correct posture, the position of your hands, how to achieve slow, steady movement, and how to course-correct when things go wonky (because they will). we’ll also explain the physical science behind movements, which will help inform your learning here.

also if you just want to get dirty and muck about because you haven’t gotten messy like this since you were a kid, that’s totally fine. we are simple clay nerds who can also read the room and won’t info dump unless you ask us to.

after class, we’ll finish your pieces with your choice of glaze and have them ready to pick up within 3 weeks :-)

optional: you can choose to return to the studio for a personalized glazing session and paint your piece if you’d like! we charge a small fee of $25 to cover glazing materials.

what to expect in class:

what you’ll make:

some beautiful pots with a whole lot of personality!

students generally make 2 pieces each — could be bowls, plates, short cups. small vases, etc.

where we’ll make it:

class occurs outdoors in our covered studio. expect flora, fauna, and general #florida phenomena. 

MAY-SEPTEMBER: with summer comes rain! if the weather is too severe to host class, we’ll reschedule at your convenience.

what you’ll keep:

you’ll get to keep any pieces you make, usually 2-3 pots each.

how we’ll glaze it:

we’ll coat your pieces in a glaze of your choice (white, matte clear, or green) unless you choose to schedule a glazing day with us.

✔️all pieces are microwave/dishwasher friendly and food-safe once finished 

when you’ll get it:

we’ll text you when work is ready! please allow for 2-4 weeks of processing after class.

we really appreciate your patience here — this is a long process and we try hard to keep a steady schedule.

PLEASE NOTE: we will store work for 45 days after we have contacted you.

but also: life happens, just talk to us if you can’t get back to the studio in that time period and we will figure something out.

however, we don’t have a lot of storage space so if we can’t get a hold of you or you haven’t come by to pick up your work multiple times, it will be sent to the shard pile. just a warning.

dress code? more like mess code…

make sure to dress for a mess, not for dinner!! short nails, lightweight long pants, and closed-toed shoes are highly recommended.

we can accomodate up to 5 people in our two-hr wheel classes. smaller classes allow us to take you through this process with more attention and care.

more than five? we’ll see if we can figure something out at the handbuilding table. we teach many things beyond wheelthrowing — mugs, dinnerware, pipe making, figure sculpting, etc. check em out here and give us a call if you’re interested.

here is a map to our studio!

you’re looking for a jungle house with a gravel driveway leading to a wooden gate. there’s big banyan tree in the front yard.

carpool if you can! we have room for one or two cars in the driveway.

you can also park on the street / swale under the trees (but not on the sidewalk, please!)

once you’ve arrived, follow the gravel driveway to the sculpture at the wooden gate with a big lizard on it, we’ll come open up for ya.
