The Hive

The Hive Anniversary Party (july 2024)

went on a lil field trip back in July ~ celebrated one year of creativity with The Hive @thehivemia, a teen-oriented art + collaborative space (and first of its kind in dade county!). we only had 45 mins to make 🤠 so we made textured snack plates, in between button-making, bass noodling, and other fun things.

this was so very sweet!! grateful to have been a part of this, stoked to finally be in a position where I can just… bring some pottery to the people (and in this case, the teens — I was pretty sure they liked it even though they didn’t say much… quiet in the art room is a good thing, no?)

the art room is a Blessed Space, at least it was for me so this is a mission that is dear to my heart. art spaces are Good and Necessary for human beings and keeping art accessible is a major part of why i do what i do anyway, and supporting these sweet people and their art-centered, community initiatives is a no-brainer, immediate, “absolutely yes!” sort of thing.

Florida Palms Academy Workshops (ongoing)

Starting in November 2023, I’ll be leading some printmaking workshops afterschool at the Florida Palms Academy in Hollywood, FL.

I prefer to use accessible materials in traveling workshops, participants should feel able to revisit what they learned with me without needing any specialty equipment or materials. I’ll be showing students how to create with their own “Gelli” pads using everyday in-your-kitchen materials (and save $50 while they’re at it).

Museum of Discovery and Science

Discovery Spot! Permanent Installation

What a fun project this was! At the end of 2022, STEAM Edu Director, Aruna Ragbir, called me with a request to make a physical recreation of the Museum of Discovery and Science mascot, “Spot the Orange”, for donors to glaze themselves at the annual donor reception in January 2023. Aruna and I worked together at Young at Art Museum prior to the pandemic and so I was excited to hear from her and ready to get to work. Once I sculpted the first Spot, I made a plaster mold of the original sculpture and pumped out nearly 50 Spots for the generous crowd.
We had a great time at the reception, where donors entertained their inner child with this joyously significant gift of gratitude from MODS. Spot represents one of the original exhibits of the museum, the Orange Grove (one I loved dearly as a kid).
The Spots are on view as a permanent installation in the Discovery Spot! at MODS in Fort Launderdale, FL.

AARP Maker’s Nights

a short but sweet fossilized flowers workshop at the museum of discovery and science with @aarpsoflo (feat kim lol) 🌱🐊 it was on a thursday in october at 5:30pm (on the dot!) when 26 ladies and one husband all poured in to the mods maker’s space and got right to work imprinting some fresh slabs with a variety of native flora and fauna (and some false monstera for aesthetics).

huge thank you to Joe and Aruna for the invite, the MODS education team for all your assistance with organizing and set-up, and the lovely ladies (and single husband) who attended.

Nomad Art Projects

Custom Holiday Mugs 2020

Thanks to Juliana Forero of Nomad Art Projects for this introduction to production for me.
this was the first major commission I had ever done, so of course everything that could go wrong did just that. I was so nervous about these that I probably made double the amount she’d asked, but it was worth it and they made it to where they needed to be in the end.
these muggies now live with some of the planners, sponsors and artists that help Broward stay culturally invigorated.
thank you, Juliana, for your patience and trust in dirty lizard over the last few years and all that you do to support the arts in South Florida!
