learn the art of handbuilding in this 2.5hr coil-pot workshop. you’ll use flat slabs & snakes of clay along with a lil bit of mud to create interesting works of art at the table. a great time for those who want to sculpt and explore clay at a more relaxing pace.

no experience required, come one come all

what will we learn?

you’ll learn more about the coil and pinch method of building with clay, an age-old technique that humans have used to make vessels for literally thousands of years.

students will walk away understanding how to control clay in space, get a better feel for building large vessels and new ideas for decorating 3D objects. 

what will we make?

april: bud jars, trays, pipes and vases

may: one thousand vases of every kind and form! we’ll be following the book “1000 vases” for inspiration. think planters, watering jugs, sculpted vessels, face cases… etc.

june: drinking vessels / companions — whiskey snifters, lemonade pitchers, iced tea tumblers, oh my! 

do i need experience?

no experience is required! we’ll be starting with the basics :-)

BYOB

feel free to bring drinks, coffees, snacks, anything that helps you feel comfortable.

dress code / mess code

wear nothin’ fancy! we’ll get a little bit dirty in this class. longer nails + clay don’t mix, so clip ‘em if you can.

we operate outside in a covered area, and nature is all around us. please expect: flora, fauna, and general #florida phenomena. long pants and closed toed shoes are highly recommended. 

does this include glazing?

this class includes clay, instruction, and your choice of a clear or white glaze. specialty glazing class can be scheduled separately (small fee applies)
